HoReCa interior design 2023 trends

HoReCa interior design 2023 trends

By investing in thoughtful and strategic interior design, hotels and resorts can create spaces that not only look good, but function in a way that meets the needs and preferences of their guests.

However, here some trends that are shaping the future of  hotel interior design.

1. Responsive spaces: Design to meet changing needs - what does it mean?

Adaptable spaces cater to the needs of digital nomads who work from anywhere in the world. These spaces offer functional and flexible rooms that allow guests to work and relax in the same space as they please. CitizenM is an excellent example of this trend.

2. Collaboration spaces: design that encourages communication

With the advent of telecommuting, hotels are repurposing their spaces to create public spaces where guests can work and socialize.

Marriott’s “Workspace on Demand” is a great example of this trend, which focuses on creating functional and aesthetically pleasing interiors that encourage collaboration. The interior design of the hotel includes many shared workspaces, including shared desks, seating areas, and individual workspaces.

3. Wellness retreats: design for health and wellness

Design for health and wellness is a growing trend, and many hotels and resorts include features that promote physical and mental well-being. Offers and possibilities of activities, including hiking, meditation, and yoga, all designed to enhance guests' overall well-being. The Miraval Resort and Spa in Arizona is a noteworthy example.

4. Combination of work and leisure: design for modern business travelers

Modern business travelers are now looking for a balance between work and play during their stay. One notable example of this trend is the Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht
This hotel has workspaces with custom-made furniture that can easily be transformed into a comfortable seating area. The hotel also features an open-plan lobby that doubles as a community center, providing guests with a place to work, socialize or simply relax.

5. Embracing local culture: design that reflects the community

Designed with a focus on cultural immersion, hotels incorporate elements that reflect the local community, culture and traditions. They often use local artwork, materials and colors to create a sense of place. The Ace Hotel in New Orleans exemplifies this trend, incorporating elements of urban culture into its design. By creating a connection with the local community, hotels can offer guests a unique and authentic experience.

6. Sustainability Focus: Green Design Priority

Nable designs are becoming increasingly important in the hospitality industry as guests become more environmentally conscious. These designs prioritise environmental responsibility.
For example - the Bardessono Hotel and Spa in Napa Valley, California. The hotel features a green roof, solar panels, and a geothermal heating and cooling system, among other eco-friendly features.

7. High-tech havens: Incorporating technology into design

Tech-powered designs incorporate innovation - this includes smart rooms with voice-activated controls, mobile check-in and keyless entry, and personalised recommendations based on guest preferences.

The Yotel brand is an example, with properties featuring self-service kiosks for check-in and check-out, robot luggage storage, and adjustable ‘smart beds’ that conform to guests’ preferences.

8. Nature-inspired designs: Creating serene and tranquil spaces

Nature-inspired designs bring elements of the outdoors into the interior design of hotels, creating a sense of relaxation and tranquillity.  The 1 Hotel brand is an example of a nature-inspired design, with properties featuring reclaimed wood accents, organic bedding, and eco-friendly toiletries.

Whether it’s creating more flexible and adaptable spaces, incorporating local culture and sustainability, or leveraging technology to enhance the guest experience, interior design in the HoReCa segment are adopting new strategies to meet the evolving needs of their customers.

9. Transformative experiences: Seeking adventure

Experiential designs are focused on providing unique and immersive experiences: virtual reality and augmented reality to create an engaging and transformative experience.

The First Museum Hotel - 21c Museum Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky is an example of this trend, featuring a contemporary art museum with rotating exhibits and installations, immersing guests in an ever-changing art experience.

10. Playful and bold:

Playful designs that feature and objects to create a fun and whimsical atmosphere. These designs aim to provide guests with a visually stimulating experience. An example of this trend is the I lobby of the ROOM MATE AITANA in Amsterdam new port and an unforgettable experience Adam Lookout 360° Sky Bar and Panorama Restaurant.
